# Categories & organization

> How the Marketplace is organized into categories and sub-categories, and how to use them to find or list items.

The Marketplace is organized so you can find what you need quickly — and so authors can list items where buyers will look.

## How it's organized

* **Categories** group items by type or purpose — for example, video templates by occasion or style.
* **Sub-categories** narrow things further within a category.
* **Attributes / options** are category-specific filters (like format or duration) that help you drill down.

## For buyers

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start broad">
    Open a category that matches what you want.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Narrow with sub-categories and filters">
    Use sub-categories and attribute filters to shrink the list to relevant items.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sort by what matters">
    Sort by popularity, rating, price, or newest to surface the best matches. See [Browsing & search](/marketplace/browsing-and-search).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## For authors

<Tip>
  Choosing the **most specific** correct category and sub-category helps the right buyers find your item. The category also determines which files and options your item supports — see [Selling items](/marketplace/selling-items).
</Tip>

<Note>
  Categories evolve as the Marketplace grows. If your item doesn't fit anywhere well, pick the closest match and describe it clearly in the title and tags.
</Note>
